The Nearness of God
May 3, 2012
A lot of times, my quiet time will start like this:
“Lord, I need help with this. What should I do?”
[Strain to hear God, face grimacing]
[Head swirling, losing focus, becoming more confused]
“Lord, I can't hear you.”
Yes you can
“Oh, I forgot again. I keep thinking I have to strain to hear you. I keep forgetting that you are right here with me.”
[I picture God surrounding me. God has many qualities. I realize that all of those qualities are now available to me. Before I have time to ask for anything, emotions begin to pour out of me. My faith grows, I feel loved, I become inspired, I have a new passion, I realize I am healed, etc.]
In my deepest need, You provide
Above all I could ask or think
If you ever find yourself stuck spiritually or just frustrated in general, begin to boast of the finished work of Christ. It is because of Jesus that we are close to God. When you declare the work finished work of Christ, your faith and belief in the nearness of God increases. That is why communion is so powerful. Communion is proclaiming Christ's death; the healing that comes from His body and the forgiveness that flows from His blood.
You did not find God. God found you. He pursued you with love. He offered up the most valuable gift just so He could be near you. Boasting in the work of Christ will jog your memory, reminding you just how close God is. Everything changes when you realize how close He is.
I was far away from you, Jesus made me near.
I was broken off from you, Jesus made me near
