I started my morning prayer with giving God all the fears that I could think of.

As I was praying, I saw a cat in a basket on a chair lift.

Then I saw a single drop of water drip from the chair lift line that the basket was attached.

Next I heard the Lord say "Wait until you see what I want to show you today”.

Then I heard Him say pick up your cell phone, which was lying next to my head. I thought this was weird or that I was just hearing my own voice. I doubted for a second but decided to do what I felt I had heard. I took the cell phone and placed it in my right hand and let it sit in the palm of my hand. I wondered, ok what does this mean. Immediately the cell phone rang and I received a text message. I was so astonished and very excited.

I was the cat in the basket, which to me represented being trapped inside of a box by fear. There were two elements of fear that manifested in the vision. Height and water, two things that I had told the Lord I was fearful of, but gave to Him in exchange for His Spirit of power (2 Timothy 1:7).

Fear keeps you from responding in faith to what the Lord has called you to do. It delays your response to His word, preventing you from acting in obedience. If I had continued to doubt the voice of the Lord, which I heard and failed to respond, I would have missed the timing of His blessing.

I must continue to fight fear or doubt with faith. Responding to the voice of the Lord takes courage to do what He has called you specifically to do. God wants to communicate with us and the only way to hear His voice is through the Spirit, because He alone speaks to your heart and His sheep recognize His voice. I believe that the text message was very symbolic or a metaphor for Him saying that I want to communicate with you.

Discerning the voice of God is only inherited through the Holy Spirit. He alone appraises spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:14). There are many voices and distractions that will compete for your attention, so it is hard to figure out which one is God speaking to you. I have realized that the more I practice listening and discipline my outer man or fleshly nature to conform to the inner man or Spirit, that I am able to recognize His voice when He calls. The Holy Spirit leads us in all things true and a discovery of Jesus Christ. He is the testimony of the Living Word, the experience and the revelation of Christ in our life. As Christ is revealed He alone gives us our knowledge of the Father.

The more we know the Father the greater our potential towards fulfilling our purpose is released. I watched the Green Lantern yesterday. It was such a parallel to what I was experiencing. I believe that it too helped me to understand the things that God was trying to tell me earlier. The Green Lantern is group of intergalactic protectors of the universe. In the movie there was a group of eternal beings who created a ring by the most powerful driving energy which they believed was the will. It was represented by the color green. There are two types of opposing energies in this movie, the will (fearlessness represented by the color green), and then there was fear (represented by the color of yellow). Each Green Lantern was given a ring which chose them because of their fearlessness or will. It chose them to become a protector of a sector of the galaxy to defend it from evil. Hal Jordan was picked to be the next Green Lantern. He had to learn that the ring chose him to fulfill ITS purpose for the potential locked away inside of him. It chose him because of his heart but Hal had to discover the potential trapped inside of him that was hidden below the surface. The villain in the movie was a force that fed on the fear of others and devoured them and destroyed their environment. Hal faces fear all throughout the movie and is haunted by the memory of his father, a pilot, who died in a plane crash. He has to overcome his fear in order to release the full power of the Green Lantern to defeat Parallax, the evil guy who feeds on fear. As his will, the inner man becomes stronger, he starts to step out in boldness and defeats the power of fear, fulfilling the destiny in which he was called according to the purpose of the Green Lantern.

Romans 8 tells us that God has chosen us and that we are predestined to fulfill HIS purposes. He too looks beyond what we see in ourselves, which is often times hidden underneath the surface under many different layers (family history, past experiences, self confidence, etc.). God chooses us for our heart and not for what is on the surface. This is evident in the story of David and Saul. David was chosen to be the appointed King of Israel by God, whereas, Saul was chosen by the people because of his physical stature. David displayed more courage and integrity than Saul. However, from the time that David was chosen he had to wait, go through some character building, training, and trials in order to become the King of Israel.

The only way to unlock the full potential of who God has called you to become is by trusting in the One who is faithful and called you in hope. Only when we put our faith in His word and respond in obedience will we discover what we are fully capable of actually accomplishing with the Living God.

God wants to communicate with us about who we are, what we have been called to do, and how we can complete His purposes through His strength.  He wants us to fully rely on Him.  When we do so it brings great joy, peace, fulfillment, and satisfaction to our lives.

He said that we would do greater things when He left but those things are only attained through faith.
